Comparison

How does Wifarer’s smartphone navigation and positioning system compare to conventional digital signage? Here’s a breakdown.

Convenience: No matter how many digital displays are installed, a visitor still has to find one before being able to use it. Because Wifarer resides on a visitor’s smartphone it is always in the palm of their hand, wherever they happen to be in the venue.

Simplicity: When a visitor does find a digital display, they have to figure out a new UI, sometimes with a line of people behind them waiting to do the same. A visitor only has to figure out the Wifarer UI once – because it is always the same UI on the same smartphone, no matter which of Wifarer’s global partner venues the user is in.

Accessibility: Ok, so the user has found the digital display and has figured out how to use it, but they only speak Japanese and the display is only in English and Spanish. Wifarer automatically takes the language of the user's phone, and supports over 100 languages.

Wayfinding: So the visitor has found the digital display, figured out how to use it, and is relieved to find that they speak the machine's supported language. Now they want information on getting from point A to point B. The display will email them directions or give them a print out (oh, the litter, waste and cost of up-keep). So now they have written directions on how to get from the digital display to where they want to go. They had better not miss the correct left or the following right; if the directions are not followed correctly they'll be lost again. Time to find another digital display, or better yet, some official looking person who'll tell them the way.

Wifarer pinpoints a visitor’s location within a venue, no matter where they are standing, and automatically updates their position as they walk. Wifarer draws a path between the visitor’s current location and their destination and gives them step-by step guidance to their target. If the visitor accidentally veers off course, they simply glance at the map on their smartphone with its blinking “you are here” beacon to re-orient themselves.

Cost: Digital displays may look impressive, but they are not cheap to buy, install or maintain. Wifarer is a software only solution that works with a venue’s existing WiFi system on visitor’s smartphones. Wifarer does not require the purchase, installation or maintenance of any additional hardware, and deployment costs are low. more benefits
